Nature
The Israel Defense Forces is the army of the State.
Subordination to Civilian Authority [Amendment: 1976]
Chief of the General Staff
Duty of Service and Conscription
The duty to serve in the army and conscription into the army shall be as prescribed by law or by virtue thereof.
Orders and Commands in the Army
The authority to issue orders and commands binding in the army shall be prescribed by law or by virtue thereof.
Other Armed Forces
No armed force may be established or maintained other than the Israel Defense Forces, except by law.
Passed by the Knesset on the 29th day of Adar Bet 5736 (31 March 1976).

צבא־הגנה־לישראל הוא צבאה של המדינה.
(א) הצבא נתון למרות הממשלה. (ב) השר הממונה מטעם הממשלה על הצבא הוא שר הבטחון.
(א) הדרג הפיקודי העליון בצבא הוא ראש המטה הכללי. (ב) ראש המטה הכללי נתון למרות הממשלה וכפוף לשר הבטחון. (ג) ראש המטה הכללי יתמנה בידי הממשלה לפי המלצת שר הבטחון.
החובה לשרת בצבא והגיוס לצבא יהיו כפי שנקבע בחוק או מכוחו.
הסמכות להוציא הוראות ופקודות המחייבות בצבא תיקבע בחוק או מכוחו.
אין להקים או לקיים כוח מזויין מחוץ לצבא־הגנה־לישראל אלא על פי חוק.
