Day for the Commemoration of the Aliyah of Yemenite Jews to Israel and the Perpetuation of the Memory of Those Who Perished on the Way to Israel§

1.
(a)Every year, on the fifteenth of Kislev, a day shall be held for the commemoration of the aliyah of Yemenite Jews to Israel and the perpetuation of the memory of those who perished on the way to Israel (in this Law – the Day for the Commemoration of the Aliyah of Yemenite Jews).
(b)Should the fifteenth of Kislev fall on a holiday, day of rest or day of cessation of work, or on a national day of remembrance or national commemoration day, or on the day preceding any of the aforementioned days, the Day for the Commemoration of the Aliyah of Yemenite Jews shall be marked on the following Sunday.

Modes of Observance§

2.

The Day for the Commemoration of the Aliyah of Yemenite Jews shall be marked, inter alia –

(1)by a special debate in the Knesset, on the date referred to in section 1 or on a date proximate thereto; should the date referred to in section 1 fall during a recess of the Knesset, the Speaker of the Knesset may fix another date for the marking of this day in the Knesset;
(2)by a study conference to be held by the Ministry of Heritage on the subject of the aliyah of Yemenite Jews to Israel and the perpetuation of the memory of those who perished on the way to Israel, in the spirit of the values of the tradition and heritage of Yemenite Jewry; the conference shall be held on the date referred to in section 1 or on a date proximate thereto;
(3)by educational and values-based activity to be held in educational institutions, to the extent that the Minister of Education so decides.

Implementation§

3.

The Minister of Heritage is charged with the implementation of this Law.
