Purpose§

1.

The purpose of this Law is to establish an annual day to mark the liberation and rescue of the Jewish people from the Nazi oppressor following the surrender of Nazi Germany.

Liberation and Rescue from Nazi Germany Day§

2.
(a)Each year, on the twenty-sixth day of Iyar, a day shall be held to mark the liberation and rescue from Nazi Germany (hereinafter – Liberation and Rescue from Nazi Germany Day).
(b)If Liberation and Rescue from Nazi Germany Day falls on a holiday, day of rest or day of cessation of work, or on a national day of remembrance or commemoration, or on the day before or after any of the aforementioned days, the Government may determine that Liberation and Rescue from Nazi Germany Day shall fall on a date proximate to the twenty-sixth of Iyar.

Actions to Mark Liberation and Rescue from Nazi Germany Day§

3.

Liberation and Rescue from Nazi Germany Day shall be marked at the Western Wall Plaza with a memorial and prayer ceremony in memory of the Jewish fighters who fought against the Nazis in the Allied armies or in the ranks of the partisans and ghetto fighters, and in gratitude for the liberation and rescue of the Jewish people from the Nazi oppressor; the Ministry for Religious Services shall be responsible for holding the ceremony.

Savings Provisions§

4.

Nothing in the provisions of this Law shall derogate from the provisions of the Victory over Nazi Germany Day Law, 5777-2017.

Implementation and Regulations§

5.

The Minister for Religious Services shall be responsible for the implementation of this Law and may make Regulations for its implementation.
