Purpose of the Law§

1.

This Law is intended to recognise Beit Hatfutsot, located in Tel Aviv (in this Law – Beit Hatfutsot), as the national centre for Jewish communities in Israel and throughout the world, and to ensure its continued existence.

Beit Hatfutsot and its Functions§

2.

Beit Hatfutsot shall be the national centre for Jewish communities in Israel and throughout the world, and its functions shall be:

(1)the display of items relating to Jewish communities and to the history of the Jewish people, including books, vessels and objects, as well as the display of works by Jews in the Diaspora;
(2)research, documentation, collection and consolidation of knowledge on subjects relating to the Jewish people throughout the generations, including with regard to –
(a)communities, synagogues, movements, organisations and public institutions, including cultural, educational, religious and charitable institutions that were established or maintained in Jewish communities throughout the world;
(b)the works, activities and struggles of Jews for the preservation of Judaism, its values, customs and laws;
(c)the activities and contributions of Jews in the various fields of culture, art, science and knowledge;
(d)items, including books, vessels and objects, relating to Jewish communities throughout the world;
(3)study, teaching and transmission, in Israel and throughout the world, of the history of the Jewish people and of fields of knowledge relating to the Jewish people;
(4)perpetuation of the activities of Jews and of households and families in Jewish communities, in order to preserve Jewish tradition;
(5)maintenance of a genealogy database and a database of Jewish family names throughout the world;
(6)maintenance of an information database on Jewish communities throughout the world and their histories.

Discharge of the Functions of Beit Hatfutsot§

3.

The company registered in Israel under the name "Beit Hatfutsot Ltd." (in this Law – the Beit Hatfutsot Company) shall act to discharge the functions of Beit Hatfutsot pursuant to section 2.

Budget§

4.

The participation of the State Treasury in the maintenance of Beit Hatfutsot shall be determined in a separate budget item in the annual budget law within the meaning of the Budget Foundations Law, 5745-1985 (in this Law – the Budget Foundations Law).

Audited Body§

5.

The Beit Hatfutsot Company is an audited body within the meaning of the State Comptroller Law, 5718-1958 [Consolidated Version].

Supported Body§

6.

The Beit Hatfutsot Company is a supported body as defined in section 32 of the Budget Foundations Law.

Implementation§

7.

The Minister of Education, Culture and Sport is responsible for the implementation of this Law.
